Volume Adherence
Also known as: Rep Compliance, Volume Match
How closely your actual rep volume matched the planned prescription, expressed as a percentage. 100% means exact match; above means you did more, below means less.
Formula
Volume Adherence = (actual total reps / target total reps) x 100Example
Planned: 120 reps. Actual: 108 reps. Volume adherence = 90%.
How Afitpilot Uses This
Volume adherence is tracked alongside load adherence and effort delta to give a complete picture of session execution. The trend over 6 sessions is computed via linear regression — "improving" (slope > 0.02), "declining" (slope < -0.02), or "stable".
Volume adherence — what the numbers mean
| Who / Context | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| < 85% | Under-dosing | Leaving stimulus on the table |
| 85-110% | Sweet spot | On prescription or slightly above |
| > 110% consistently | Over-shooting | Possible junk volume or plan too conservative |
| Active aging (60+) | Typically 90-100% | Following the plan closely = underrated strength |
Known Limitations
- •Exercises with non-normalizable reps (AMRAP, time-based, "to failure") are excluded from both planned and actual totals, which can reduce the coverage and meaningfulness of this metric for conditioning-heavy sessions.
Science Context
Volume adherence reflects the dose-response relationship in training. Insufficient volume may limit adaptations, while chronically exceeding prescribed volume without corresponding recovery may increase injury risk.
